We scored a few baguettes from a wonderful bakery, La Farinne, last night when my husband attended an event with his friend. Now they’re sitting happily in my freezer, though I broke into one this morning, toasted a section, and slathered it with cream cheese.
Tonight’s dinner was the fastest food morph I’ve created in awhile. It started out as rosemary white-bean soup, but then I didn’t like the taste of it at the end, so I turned it into curried white bean soup with cream (another thing I’ve been trying to use up). It didn’t taste too bad, but I often find myself not that hungry at night because I’m so involved in the process of making (and tasting) the food that I have no appetite for it when dinner rolls around. I could have eaten the side caesar salad I made, but for the glass that I accidentally broke right next to it when it was about to be served. We were kind of leery of eating glass shards, so that was that – a sad farewell to perfectly good greens and dressing as I dumped them into the trash.
I think we’re doing okay budget-wise on food, but am irked by the continual need to go out and get one thing one day, another the next. I’m usually not this bad at planning grocery shopping, but I think part of it is because a few items I planned to get over the weekend weren’t in stock.
Breakfast: toasted baguette with cream cheese, iced coffee
Lunch: Hungarian beef stew over farfalle pasta
Dinner: Garlic bread (made w/ baguette) and soup (note that garlic bread is, in my opinion, deservedly the main course! :))
